hey guys i have a o4 2500 hemi with 18,000 miles bought new in 05'. My dealer gave me a year of free oil changes, now its time for me to . I'm considering using MOBIL 1 5w30. The dealer used regular mobil oil and mopar filters. Whats a good filter to use? My brother uses a FRAM ph8a filter on his hemi (like dodge used in the 70's) its quite a bit longer holding another 1/2 quart oil. Wondered what everyone else was using for oil and filters. ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I have been using Motorcraft 5w20 in my 05 hemi. Its a synthetic blend and I get the 5qt jug for just under $10.

Check out www.bobistheoilguy.com lots of good info there. On that site Fram is a 4 letter word :)

I always run Mobil1 5w-20. Next oil change I want to try the Royal Purple and see if theres a difference. Filters I bounce back and forth between Mobil1 and K&N. Dont forget the oil filter magnet. Ive always had one on every filter of every vehicle Ive owned. Good for trapping any possible metal particles/shavings. Your tranny pan already has one, but Im going to add one to my oil pan at 15,000 miles.

can I ask why you dont put in the 7qts required? I mean I usually need 7 1/2 to be in the middle of safe.
The windage tray design is not perfect and the 6 quart level will provide 2-3 more flywheel peak HP. As a result the oil will run cooler and be less aerated which is a win/ win situation. Just check your oil a little more often to insure that the oil level does not drop below the safe or add line and do not push your oil change intervals out too far, because there will be less oil for the contaminants to mix with (the oil will get dirtier slightly faster.) Check the oil with a hot engine and remove the dipstick and then allow about five minutes for the oil to drain back before checking with the truck parked on a level surface.

Why oh why did I click on the slammed1 link? I want.

Sorry about hijacking...I'm about to do the first oil change myself (yeah the dealership's a bunch of jerks) and I'm planning on using a Mobil 1 filter and either Castrol GTX or Valvoline for the first two changes (then it's Mobil 1 the rest of the way).

haha, so i've heard...might have to break out the handy dandy screwdriver and stab that thing like a cheap hooker, it's worked well before

What, stabbing a cheap hooker? or the oil filter thing?
