What's the difference between grill inserts and overlays?

Is this the whole thing or JUST the honeycomb part?.. Would that be any better quality than these?

The first one is the factory chrome honeycomb insert only . . . You take your whole grill off, pop out whatever insert you have now, and pop in this new chrome one . . . The second item looks like a cheap grill cover (overlay) that gets zip-tied to your exsisting grill, and would look like a$$ in my opinion . . . Go for the factory chrome if that's the look you want . . . An extra $100 is nothing to make sure your $35000 truck looks right

That's what I was leaning towards, I was more curious if the first link was the entire frame + honeycomb insert or JUST the honeycomb inserts.. and why the other link calls them overlays?

What do you guys think? The standard chrome grill (the straight one) or the honeycomb chrome grill on a white sport CC? (the 'frame' part of the grill is body color - white)

I agree, get the OEM inserts if you want honeycomb. I had billet overlays on my 04 and it looked horrible. I ended up fabbing some brackets to mount them on and eliminated the original black honeycomb inserts.

To be honest, I've never been a fan of white and chrome together . . . There are a couple white sports on here that have put the black honeycomb in, and they look stellar. I have a blackhoneycomb insert that I bought from Thor09 that is going in when I get my headlights painted black. To answer your question, I like the chrome honeycomb better than the straight billet. Just my opinion though . . . It's your truck, so make it your own and do what YOU like. Oh, just an FYI . . . For some stupid reason you can't buy just the black honeycomb insert like you can the chrome. You have to find somebody selling one, or buy the whole grill from MOPAR.

As stated, the inserts replace the existing inserts in your grille....the "shell" or "frame" of the grille does not come with the inserts. You take the inserts out, and replace with the new ones (attached on the back side of the grille shell).

The 2nd link is aweful, I wouldn't even consider this, looks like they are either zip tied on or glued on somehow...or, even worse, you have to drill into the grille shell to secure them.

What scheme are you planning to go with on your truck? Chrome wheels, black wheels, any other chrome trim in the future...the other accents you have, or plan to have on your truck should determine what you choose, to keep it consistent.

Right now everything is stock (chrome wheels).. It's got the chrome billet grill, and I was thinking a chrome honeycomb.

I originally thought a black honeycomb but I'm just gonna keep the chrome wheels so I figured a chrome honeycomb grill would compliment those wheels better... now I'm just trying to decide whether or not I want to spend the money for honeycomb or just keep what I have.

In all honesty, I would just keep what you have...spend the money you would have spent on the inserts on something else. Just my 2 cents.

I do like the chrome honeycomb a lot better than the straight billet.
