For them that wanted to see
I did the DIY grill inset this weekend
It was remarkably easy supply list :
3 pieces of aluminum gutter guard
4 packs of 10 very small wood screws Think they where #6 by ¼ inch
4 packs of 10 star locking washer’s size to fit the #6 screws
1 pack of 10 self taping
1 section of PVC ¼ Inside diameter
1 pack of loop type hold downs
I can satin black rustolium spry paint

For the hood latch release I used a 4 inch piece of PVC with an inside diameter of ¼ inch out side was like ½ inch
I then ran a solid metal rod through the PCV and bent the end in a Hook shape and the bottom in a 90 angel.

Looks good. I got my grille kit from Country Craft. I think I paid around 50 for it. It's not the mesh.

Haven't done it yet - but from what I understand you drill a hole in your existing hood latch. Run either a rod or a cable down to the bottom of the grill. I believe pimptopia suggests a bicicle cable because of the flexibility and it saves you from needing the PVC that other people use. If you go the PVC route, run the rod down the PVC, attach the PVC to the grill using zip-ties or something, then put a key ring, or another bend on the bottom of the rod so you can pull it easily.

As I said, haven't done it but that's what I THINK you're supposed to do.

Good luck. Take some pics and post 'em - I like to see what this kind of stuff looks like.

What is the deal with the hood latch extension?

When you put in grille inserts, the secondary hood release handle usually is blocked. This mod lowers it.

Really! Didn't have that problem with mine! Trying to decide if I want to paint them the color of the truck. What do you all think?

you have to be creative on this one. If you paint your insert it might not stand out as much. unless that's what your looking for????

Just wondering why some mention the latch extension and mine didn't need it!

because with a speed grille insert you can't put your meat hooks through the small holes. you can opt to use a screw driver. my SS kit came with a T-handle so no worries

Most grille kits come with the handle extension, or instructions on how to make one.
